October is National Bullying Prevention Month

Here are a few things to be on the lookout for:

  1. Orange Ribbon & SFAYL Community Banner

Teachers will be given orange ribbon to hand out to any students that they see being kind, accepting, inclusive, or standing up for their classmates.  Once a student receives an orange ribbon for their kindness act, they can hang it on the playground fence during their recess, lunch, or afterschool (there will be a poster hung on the fence with the month's theme and the ribbons will go around the poster so it will be visible from the parking lot).

  1. Unity Day, Wednesday, October 20th

On this day, faculty, staff, and students will be allowed to wear orange tops and accessories to show they are "united for a kinder, more accepting, and inclusive world".  Please remind your children of this as we get closer to the date.

  1. Classroom Visits

Mrs. McCarty will be going to as many classrooms as possible throughout the month to provide lessons and read books on themes like the power of our words, acceptance, prosocial behaviors, etc.

  1. FIAT Value - Peacemaker

Our FIAT for the month of October is peacemaker.  Students may learn more about this concept in classroom lessons and we encourage you to incorporate it into your discussions at home.

In addition, our community will be seeing positive orange chalk messages around campus promoting acceptance, along with hearing positive morning reminders from our student council during announcements.
