California Junior Scholarship Federation
For Seventh and Eighth Grade Students
The California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) is a statewide organization that recognizes outstanding students who demonstrate academic excellence and strong citizenship. Membership honors students who consistently meet high standards in scholarship and character.
Qualified students who earn a minimum of four (4) trimesters of membership during their seventh-grade year through Trimesters 1 and 2 of their eighth-grade year will receive a CJSF honor medallion at graduation. Students who enter St. Francis in eighth grade will have this requirement prorated and must earn two (2) trimesters of membership during their eighth-grade year.
Membership in CJSF is not automatic and is not required. It is based solely on academic achievement and citizenship. Extracurricular activities and community service are not considered when determining eligibility for membership.
Students interested in joining CJSF must complete the application and submit it for grade verification along with a copy of the qualifying Student Learning Assessment.
Membership Requirements
CJSF membership requirements are established and regulated by the CJSF By-Laws, specifically Article IV – Requirements for Semester/Trimester Membership.
Eligible academic subjects include:
- Religion/Family Life
- English Language Arts
- Mathematics
- History/Social Studies
- Science
For membership, students must earn academic points based on grades received in eligible courses. The total number of points required is twice the number of academic subjects the student is enrolled in.
For example:
- A student enrolled in 5 eligible subjects must earn 10 CJSF points to become a member.
Point values are calculated as follows:
- A = 3 CJSF points
- B = 1 CJSF point
- C = 0 CJSF points
A student who receives a D or F in an eligible academic subject during a trimester is not eligible for CJSF membership for that trimester.
