Kindergarten - Second

At St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School, our Kindergarten through Second Grade students build a strong foundation in faith, academics, and character within a nurturing and engaging learning environment. Each grade level is supported by two classrooms, with every grade level benefiting from both a dedicated teacher and a classroom aide who provide individualized attention and support for all learners.
Our lower elementary students enjoy learning in classrooms located within our Lower Elementary Quad, a welcoming space surrounded by beautiful outdoor green areas that extend learning beyond the classroom walls and encourage exploration, collaboration, and discovery.
Faith is at the heart of everything we do. Students participate in daily Religion instruction using the Christ Our Life program from Loyola Press, daily schoolwide prayer, monthly all-school Masses, monthly class Masses, and Eucharistic Adoration. These experiences help our students develop a personal relationship with Christ while growing in Catholic values and service to others.
Our academic program is aligned with the California Common Core State Standards (CCCS) and is designed to foster curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning. Students develop strong literacy skills through UFLI Foundations, a structured phonics program, and the Wonders English Language Arts curriculum from McGraw-Hill. Mathematics instruction is provided through the Savvas enVision Mathematics program, helping students build confidence and problem-solving skills through hands-on learning and real-world applications.
Students also explore the world around them through Social Studies and Science. Science instruction is enhanced by a dedicated Science teacher who brings engaging, inquiry-based lessons to our youngest learners.
To support the development of the whole child, students participate in a variety of enrichment classes, including Physical Education, Art, and Music. These experiences encourage creativity, physical wellness, self-expression, and collaboration.
Technology is thoughtfully integrated into our Kindergarten through Second Grade program to enhance and extend the high-quality instruction provided by our teachers. Every student has access to a school-owned iPad that serves as a learning tool to support academic growth, creativity, and engagement.

Kindergarten and First Grade students use their iPads exclusively within the classroom under the guidance and supervision of their teachers. Second-grade students begin developing greater independence by bringing their iPads home each evening, preparing them for the increased responsibility and technology use in the upper grades.
Our teachers utilize technology to personalize learning, provide targeted practice, and enrich classroom instruction. Through carefully selected educational programs such as IXL, SplashLearn, Google Workspace, and Seesaw, students engage in meaningful learning experiences that reinforce essential skills, encourage creativity, and allow them to demonstrate their understanding in a variety of ways.
Technology at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School is used with purpose and intention. Digital tools do not replace teacher instruction; rather, they enhance learning by providing opportunities for students to practice skills at their individual level, collaborate with classmates, create projects, and extend their learning beyond traditional classroom activities. All technology use occurs within structured, monitored environments designed to support student success while promoting responsible digital citizenship.
Through faith-filled instruction, dedicated educators, and a supportive learning community, our Kindergarten through Second Grade program provides students with the academic and spiritual foundation needed for success throughout their educational journey.
